AHRI certificates for heat pump rebate applications
For HVAC contractors filing a rebate on behalf of a residential customer. The certificate proves the rated combination you installed; the program decides the rebate.
An AHRI certificate is the piece of evidence most heat pump rebate forms turn on, and the one most often wrong when a filing comes back. Everything below is read from AHRI's and Mass Save's own published documents, each cited by id, with the date a person reviewed it.
What an AHRI certificate is, and what it carries
A certificate is issued against a combination of models, not against the box on the truck. That distinction is behind most of the trouble it causes on a rebate filing.

What you need to look one up
A lookup identifies a combination, so it needs every part of that combination. Two of these routinely surprise people.

How far back the directory goes
Replacement jobs on older equipment are where a lookup fails, and the reason is a retention limit rather than a missing record.

Verifying a certificate somebody else produced
When the certificate arrives with the equipment rather than from your own lookup, it can be checked against the directory.

The 2026 refrigerant change to the Mass Save qualified list
This is the current reason a combination that earned a rebate last year may not be eligible now. The AHRI reference is what pins down the refrigerant, which is why it belongs on this page.

1 open question
The official documents are silent on the point below. We publish it as a question rather than picking a reading.
- A pre-2026 R-410A combination installed in 2026, outside the two stated exceptions. The qualified product list states the removal and names two exceptions — large variable refrigerant flow Systems and factory-charged self-contained Products. It is silent on any other case, including equipment bought before the cutover and installed after it. Confirm with the program before quoting a rebate on one.

Heat pump water heaters are the exception: that form takes manufacturer and model and no AHRI reference at all, because the rebate is a flat amount per unit rather than a per-ton calculation. If you are filing that pathway, you are not looking for a certificate.
